A few words
Kea or Tzia is the westernmost island of the Cyclades and is located a stone's throw from Attica, which makes it a very popular destination during the summer. History
The history of the island starts from quite old and in fact has already changed three names. It was originally called Idrousa, a name which was changed to Jia during the Turkish occupation, while its current name is due to the hero Keo. During the Venetian occupation, the castle of the island was built on the site of the acropolis of ancient Ioulida. Kea was conquered by the Turks in 1537 and underwent catastrophic changes during the Russo-Turkish War. After the catastrophe in Asia Minor, many Greeks found refuge on the island, while in the Revolutionary Struggle of 1821, Kea played an important role in the liberation struggle and managed to integrate into Greece in 1830.
