History
Historically, Sivota is known for the battle of the Corinthians and Thesprotians against the Corfiots in 433 bc during the Peloponnesian war. In the ottoman empire Sivota was called Mourtos from the name of the ruler, who took booty from passing merchant ships. This name remained until 1959, when it reverted to the ancient name. Sivota, like the rest of Thesprotia, was united with Greece during the period of the Balkan wars of 1912-1913.

The region of Thesprotia has interesting archaeological and historical monuments, such as the Ancient Gitani, the Ancient Fanoti, the Ancient Elaia and the heroic and glorious village of Souli, demonstrating the rich heritage of the ancient times. You can see the Ancient Settlement of Vrachona who is a abandoned traditional settlement with about fifty houses, dating back to the 18th-19th century. It is worth to visit the Tower of Ragiou which is located 9 kilometres north-west of Igoumenitsa. Sivota is among other things a very good choice as a starting point for a visit to the other beauties of the mainland. In near distance is, for example, the town of Parga and the river Acheron. Don't miss the opportunity to organize an excursion to the famous straits of Acheron as the river and its springs are an area of astonishing natural landscape with great ecological and historical interest. In particular, the path from the spring to Souli is well known as enjoyable. Also, it is worth a visit to the amusement Park Perdika, which hosts many species of birds and fish.
