Nuremberg is the second largest city in Bavaria. Bavaria is the southernmost of the 16 states and its capital is Munich. Nuremberg is a beautiful German city, built in the valley of the river Pegnitz. History
Nuremberg was a landmark of developments in the history not only of Germany but of the world. From the middle ages has experienced economic and cultural prosperity and as it had a strategic location it was the center of making important decisions. In 1532 the religious peace of Nuremberg was signed, which was attended by Luther and from which protestantism gained significant concessions. In 1632 the Albrecht von Wallenstein during the thirty year war defeated the king of Sweden during the siege of Nuremberg, and the city began to deteriorate. Nuremberg passed to the sovereignty of Bavaria formally in 1806. During the rise of Nazism, the numerous gatherings of the national socialist party of Hitler in the annual meetings from 1933 to 1938 were based on Nuremberg. During the invasion of the Allied forces, the city was bombed extensively and was razed to the industry. The trials for the crimes of war and against humanity of the Nazis took place between 1946 and 1948 in Nuremberg and remained in history as the Nuremberg trials.

Nuremberg is characterized by many as the city of museums as it has a number of these in the historic center. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the medieval Kaiserburg castle which is built on the highest point of the town and has wonderful views of the whole city. Inside the castle you will find the homonymous museum Kaiserburg Museum. One of the most important art museums in Germany is the German National Museum and the Railway Museum. It is also worth to visit the Toy Museum, especially if you are travelling with the family. If you wander in the medieval centre of the city you will admire the square of Hauptmarkt, the imposing gothic Church of our lady and the bridge Maxbrücke, which connects the two historical squares of the city. In the central paved square of Hauptmarkt is open daily, a great outdoor market, where the great Christmas market is set up in the Christmas period. Symbol of the christmas market of Nuremberg is the gold fountain Schoner Brunnen, which is located on the northwest edge of the square. If you stay several days in the city we recommend to visit also the Zoo of Nuremberg, which is one of the oldest in Europe and one of the largest on the continent.
What to eat
The cuisine of Bavaria in general is characterized by many as heavy as it contains several dishes with meat and potatoes. It is worth to try the Leberkäse which is a traditional food. It is a kind of "pate" beef with bacon and onion. It can be made from pork meat. Usually, it is eaten as a snack or as a main dish, accompanied by potato salad or scrambled eggs and sweet mustard. In Nuremberg in any of the countless pubs you have to try the famous sausages of Nuremberg” which are the best in the country while it is forbidden to build elsewhere, even in Germany! The Sauerkraut goes very nicely with sausages, as it has a sour and slightly sweet taste. Is one of the most prevalent accompanying German dishes, both the meat dishes and in pasta salads.
